Roger Jackson Obituary, Councillor at Nottinghamshire County Council Passed Away
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Councillor Roger Jackson, who died at home this morning following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Representing the Southwell Division on Nottinghamshire County Council, Roger was a dedicated public servant whose positive impact will be felt for generations.
A huge supporter of The Minster School, his commitment was both personal and practical. During the Covid lockdown, he helped the MSPTA fundraise for a trim trail to brighten the junior school’s play area. More recently, he was instrumental in securing a climbing wall for the main school. Despite his illness, he always answered calls, offered support, and attended the unveiling, demonstrating his unwavering dedication.
His legacy, however, extends far beyond the school gates. Roger was a formidable advocate for the wider community, tirelessly working to deliver vital infrastructure projects. He played a crucial role in securing the £26 million flood storage reservoir scheme in Lowdham, the Southwell Flood Alleviation Scheme, and a £1 million feasibility study for junction improvements at Gunthorpe. His determination also delivered tangible highway improvements, including a pedestrian crossing at Bulcote and extensive resurfacing works on key local roads.
These projects stand as a lasting testament to his determination to improve the lives of his constituents. Roger Jackson was a councillor who got things done, driven by a genuine desire to serve.
