Coach Jim Semon Passed Away, Anthony Munoz Foundation Mourns Loss of Coach
It is with profound sadness that the Anthony Muñoz Foundation announces the passing of Jim Semon, a beloved youth coach, mentor, and foundational figure in Anthony’s life. More than a coach, Jim was a positive male role model whose guidance fundamentally shaped the man and the mission we know today.
Their bond began when Anthony was just six years old. Jim, then the Director of Parks and Recreation in Ontario, CA, and his wife Cheryl, gifted Anthony his first baseball glove—a simple act that symbolized the beginning of a lifelong mentorship. Jim would later become Anthony’s high school baseball coach, consistently providing the encouragement and support he needed to succeed both on the field and in life. More importantly, Jim helped instill in Anthony a passion for serving others and a commitment to making a tangible difference.
This influence is the very bedrock of the Anthony Muñoz Foundation. Our mission to impact youth mentally, physically, and spiritually is a direct reflection of the profound impact Jim had on Anthony’s character and vision. To honor Jim and Cheryl’s lasting influence, the Foundation established the Jim & Cheryl Semon Impact Award in 2006. As the inaugural recipient, Jim himself set the precedent for this award, which recognizes individuals who embody selflessness, compassion, and a dedication to strengthening community—qualities the Semons so beautifully exemplified.
Jim leaves behind an indelible mark. His legacy is visible in the Foundation’s work and the over 62,500 young lives touched since its inception. We are forever grateful for his guidance, generosity, and unwavering commitment to investing in others. Our heartfelt thoughts are with all who knew and loved him. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service and mentorship will continue to inspire and resonate for generations to come.
